Here’s is the 1st Nine Weeks Persuasive Essay topic. This topic is related to carbohydrates, which is one of the organic compounds we have learned about in class this nine weeks. You will complete this essay in class on Monday, September 28, 2009. You will get more details and information in class. However, please feel free to research the topic on your own before coming to class.

Welcome back parents and students to another school year! As a reminder, lab fees are due Friday, September 5th. All forms (discipline policy, student information, lab safety contract, and explanation of conduct grade) were due back completed and signed by Friday, August 10th. If you have missed this deadline, please get the forms in as soon as possible. Please also remember that today we sectioned off notebooks in class. If you did not have your binder and dividers today, then it is your responsibility to organize it correctly.

Write and answer questions 3-4 on pg. 268 in the textbook. Make sure that you underline your answers or else points will be deducted. This is due tomorrow.

Chapter 8 “Building Vocabulary Concepts”

Directions: Draw a 3-column chart with the labels TERM, FIGURE #, and TERM/FIGURE RELATION.
List all terms in chapter 8 under term. Under the heading Figure #, write the figure number from Chapter 8 that corresponds with the term. If more than one term relates to a figure, group those terms together with the same figure number. Under Term/Figure relation, summarize how the term(s) relate to the figure. In other words, summarize how the term is explained using the figure.

Welcome back everyone! I’m going to try really hard to keep all assignments posted. If I ever forget to (and I will) post assignments, you can always check the daily agenda book in class when you return. However, I will only accept missing assignments from students with excused absences only!! The assignment must be turned in within 3 days.

Everyone should be sure to study ALL information that I have given from the chemistry unit. This includes: The Biology Corner link found on this blog (Biology Corner- Biology 3A: Intro to Biology- Metabolism notes); the BioCoach link found on this blog (Building Biomolecules and Properties of Biomolecules); both sets (Cliff’s and Barron’s) of unit review questions, answers, and also free-response questions and answers; the chemistry unit review outline with all of the key terms and topics for this unit.

Guide to studying for the semester exam: Make sure you review, at least, the figures and diagrams for chapters 1-7 and 50-55; all “summary of key concepts” (found at the end of each chapter); all of the outlined key terms; all of the chapter powerpoints (found on course-notes.org; this link is on my blog).

Use the following data to complete the chart for the Lab 12 handout. Be sure to graph your answers. Keep this lab in your notebook until we revisit it.

This is a reminder of the following:

1. Complete Cliffs Ecology Free-Response Questions over the break and be prepared to critique your answers.
2. All chemistry unit review powerpoint summaries should be completed and submitted Tuesday by 10 p.m. Make sure each group submits a summary of each slide, has a minimum of 20 slides per powerpoint summary, and 10 review questions where the answer transitions in after the question.
3. I will email you the terms from the cell unit, and your ASSIGNED section, by Tuesday. All cell unit summaries will be due by Friday, 11-14-08.
4. Raheem will review the ecology unit on Wednesday.
5. We will take the Ecology unit test on Thursday. You will have 20-30 multiple choice questions and 2-5 free response questions that come from both Ecology Reviews (Barron’s and Cliff’s).
6. I am working on a time line of topics to cover before the semester exam week, 12/15-19/08, that I will get to everyone ASAP.
